City Of Phoenix Saves On Gas

The city of Phoenix is saving millions at the gas pump. The recent price drop has saved the city roughly $2 million in 2013 gasoline costs compared to the year before.

Gregg Duckett is an operations manager for the public works department in the fleet services division.

“Fuel’s not something you can say ‘Well, let’s put that aside and we won’t build that building today,'" Duckett said. "That’s one thing you can save money. But when it comes to fuel, you still have to fuel the vehicles. Police and fire and everybody else needs to still move. We need to find money where we can and if we can find it in savings, that’s best of all.”

Duckett said the city also reduced the number of cars in its fleet to reduce the cost of gas. He expects the city to save even more next year.
