The Clean Elections Commission voted unanimously Thursday to sign a settlement with Attorney General Tom Horne over allegations he used state staff to run his re-election campaign.
The agreement requires Horne to pay a $10,000 fine, acknowledge that public employees cannot campaign on state time and amend and resubmit his campaign’s finance reports.
Thomas Collins, the commission’s executive director, said the agreement acknowledges the Clean Elections Commission’s legitimacy and the Clean Elections Act.
"The public’s interest is secured and [it] recognizes that state employees cannot campaign on state time are all acknowledged here," Collins said. "So the agreement speaks for itself."
Horne’s bid for an additional term in the state Attorney General’s office was unsuccessful. He lost in the republican primary election to Attorney General elect Mark Brnovich.
