Phoenix residents now have more options when it comes to public transportation. Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton cut the ribbon on a new bike share program Tuesday.

The project is called Grid Bike Share. It’s the latest effort the city has taken to make Phoenix a more bike-friendly city.

The program’s lime green bikes will be available to rent on an hourly basis with many located next to existing public transportation stops and business centers.

Mayor Stanton said the project will help extend the reach of the city’s current public transit system.

"Now you have no reason not to do it," he said. "You’ve got every reason to use our great public transportation system and go that extra mile, mile and a half."

Grid Bike Share was launched with about 100 bikes at 27 stations along the Phoenix central corridor. Officials hope to double that number by February.
