A student from the Valley is living out a marching band dream, playing in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade.
Caitlyn Booher is a senior at Williams Field High School and a member of the school marching band. But now she will be marching to the beat of a different drum in a different city. Booher has been chosen to march in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade.
The process for being selected involved a video audition, said band director Bod Edgar. Booher then submitted the video and waited to hear back.
"Her parents received a letter saying that she had been accepted and they sent it over," Edgar said. "At the end of practice, we just kind of pulled out the letter and read it to everybody. She didn’t know at that point. She was shocked. A lot of the kids didn’t even know she had submitted. So I mean, it was a big surprise."
Booher will be marching with 184 other high school musicians chosen from around the country to make up the Macy’s Great American Marching Band. Booher left for New York on Saturday for rehearsals and sightseeing before stepping off in the Thanksgiving Day Parade.
