Proposed route of the Tempe Streetcar.

Valley Metro is looking for the public’s input on the Tempe Streetcar. The project is part of the 20-year regional transportation plan.

This proposed three-mile route is still in the planning phase. The city is asking residents for their input through a comment form online.

The design team is looking for input on the stops, and the type of streetcar. The streetcar is different than the light rail.

“It does stop more often than the light rail," Tierney said. "So it serves a very densely populated area and it’s also going to be important for the long-term investment for that area of Tempe.”

The plan is to have the streetcar funded by a federal grant, an air quality and traffic reduction grant and funds from the regional transportation plan.

The route starts on Apache Blvd and Dorsey Lane and goes through downtown to Tempe Beach Park.

The project is set to complete in fall of 2018.
