People hoping to retake the Arizona driver's test will now have to wait longer before their next attempt. The Motor Vehicles Division has extended the waiting period from one day to seven.
The new policy went into effect on Monday.
Officials hope it will encourage test takers to be more prepared for the test the first time around.
"The thought is that if people have to wait longer before they can come back and retest, they wouldn’t want to wait that amount of time," said Ryan Harding, a spokesman with the Arizona Department of Transportation.
The MVD administers almost 21,000 drivers test per month. Right now about 50 percent of test takers pass the written portion with 75 percent passing the road test.
