The recount of the votes in southern Arizona’s 2nd Congressional District continues, but the vote leader has been assigned a congressional committee.
If she ultimately turns out to be the winner, Republican Martha McSally will sit on the House Armed Services Committee. The retired Air Force colonel holds a lead of 161 votes, over incumbent Democratic Rep. Ron Barber, but both Pima and Cochise Counties are re-tabulating the votes.
McSally says she’s honored to be appointed to a committee that has such a large impact on both the 2nd district, and the country. The district includes Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson and Fort Huachuca, the Army base in Sierra Vista that’s home to the Army’s Intelligence Center.
Barber is a current member of the Armed Services Committee.
