Arizona's Share Of Money For Federal Immigrant Healthcare Program Runs Out

Earlier this year, Arizona exhausted its share of a federal program that paid hospitals and some other providers back, for the cost of treating undocumented immigrants.

Starting in 2005, Washington set aside $1 billion for all 50 states and allocated money based on the number of apprehensions and percentage of undocumented immigrants in each state.

Arizona’s state money dried up at the end of March and the last payments were made just last month. For more, we turn to Jim Haynes, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association.
