A break in a water pipeline at the Grand Canyon is affecting services at Phantom Ranch at the bottom of the canyon. National Parks Service spokeswoman Kirby Lynn Shedlowski says that’s making it tough on visitors planning to stay overnight.
“We’re asking that all visitors that plan on hiking down to Phantom Ranch be self-sufficient and be prepared to carry or treat all of their drinking water,” Shedlowski said.
Shedlowski says it’s not known when the pipeline will be repaired, with the timing being dependent on the weather. She says the forecast for the next few days includes additional fog, reduced visibility, 35-40 mph wind gusts and a good possibility of snow.
