UA Hospital Opens New Burn Treatment Room

The University of Arizona Medical Center is unveiling a new burn treatment room.

Hospital officials said Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild, former patients and hospital staff will be on hand for the opening Monday morning of the new facility.

The new room will increase the capacity to treat burn victims throughout southern Arizona, which has not had an in-patient burn program for the past six years.

Officials say seriously injured patients will now be able to stay in Tucson for trauma burn care and follow-up treatment.

The room includes a shower trolley for patients who cannot sit or stand and a heater that will help critical patients maintain a stable body temperature.

The hospital said more than $80,000 donations helped fund the room.
