Phoenix is taking steps to deal with airplane noise resulting from a new flight path over Phoenix’s historic FQ Story neighborhood. Tuesday the City Council will vote to approve a study about the noise.
As of Dec. 5, Sky Harbor has had more than 1,600 complaints about the noise. The Federal Aviation Administration changed the flight route in September, which has angered residents who live near 7 th Avenue and Grand Avenue.
The Phoenix City Council dealing with the problem by recommending a technical firm, Landrum and Brown, to do noise monitoring studies. The council is also voting on what it calls a federal legislative strategy.
“A federal legislative strategy for the FAA to identify and analyze mitigation measures to reduce the impact of the new procedures on Phoenix residents," said city council staffer Stephanie Menetrier. "It’s a guaranteed partnership to make sure that this is of the utmost high priority.”
There will be a series of meetings with the community over the next three months to decide how to deal with the problem.
