AAA Predicts Near-Record Travel For Holidays

This is expected to be a near-record year for holiday travel in Arizona. AAA spokeswoman Michelle Donati said the low price of gas has led to a major increase in people planning to travel over the holidays,

“Almost two million Arizonans will be taking a trip 50 or more miles from home. That’s an increase of almost 3 percent from last year. 90 percent of those will be taking a road trip. That’s up 3 percent over last year,” Donati said

Donati said nearly 100 million people across the country will be hitting the road over the holidays, making this the highest travel volume on record across the U.S. It will be the second highest volume on record for Arizona.

The statewide average price of gas Wednesday is $2.45 a gallon, down 13 cents a gallon from a week ago at this time.
