Travelers crossing the U.S./Mexico border will now have access to wait time data at Arizona ports. It’s part of a new app released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection this week.
What’s known as the “Border Wait Time” app allows travelers to find and compare wait times at the three ports of entry closest to them. The program provides users with data from all land border crossings with Mexico and Canada.
Edith Serrano is with CBP’s Tucson office. She said the agency hopes the app will boost efficiency for agents and travelers over the holiday season.
"As they’re returning, they can use their application to see what the wait times are for that particular port where they’re crossing," said Serrano. "They can see how many lanes are open. And by gauging at that, that would help them to plan their travel accordingly."
Serrano said the app does not require users to register or provide any personal information.
