There’s no interruption to bus services in central Phoenix and the west Valley this week — not yet anyway.

First Transit, Inc., the contracted operator of the Valley Metro bus routes, and Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1433 will continue their negotiations. ATU is representing an estimated 300 workers. Phoenix spokesperson Matthew Heil said the continued talks are a good sign.

“First Transit let us know that they are going  back to negotiations with the union members this week, with ATU Local 1433," Heil said. "Which means that they’re still in discussions and we won’t foresee any disruption to service while those discussions are ongoing.”

The ATU Local 1433 and First Transit have been negotiating a contract since collective-bargaining agreements expired in June of 2014.
