The Director of the Department of Economic Security resigned Monday. Clarence Carter had been in the position for four years.
He was in charge during a scandal with the Department of Child Protective Services, which DES oversaw. The department failed to investigate more than 6,000 cases of child abuse.
An investigation of the department resulted in the formation of a new agency the Arizona Department of Child Safety. Arizona Governor Doug Ducey’s office is in the process of identifying a new director.
Carter’s last day will be Friday.
