Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey has implemented a moratorium on all new rulemaking by state agencies. Ducey issued the executive order shortly after being sworn into office yesterday.
According the Governor’s website, the goal is to promote job growth by preventing what Ducey calls “antiquated and unnecessary” government regulations on private sector businesses.
There are a few exceptions. Regulations that protect public health and safety, those needed to avoid violating a court order or federal law and rules that will implement a budget directive will be allowed.
The order is effective through the end of the year. It echoes one former Gov. Jan Brewer issued shortly after she took office in 2009.
