New Arizona AG May Try To Revive State Human Smuggling Law

Arizona's new Attorney General Mark Brnovich just took office this week, but he has already made his first move to defend one of the state's contested immigration laws.

On Tuesday he filed a notice that he'll appeal a federal judge's November ruling that struck down Arizona's 2005 anti-human smuggling law. It is still not clear, however, whether the new attorney general will follow through with the appeal.

Brnovich's office said in a statement that he filed the paperwork because the deadline to appeal was Jan. 6.

"At this point General Brnovich and his team are reviewing the litigation file and determining what the best long-term course of action is as we move forward," the statement read.
