Flagstaff Looks To Build Housing For Vets

The Flagstaff City Council wants city staffers to look into the possibility of building a veterans home in the city.

Council members have asked city staff to look into deeding seven or eight acres of the city’s cinder and sand storage yard to build a 60-bed facility for veterans.

If approved by the state and federal governments, the Arizona Daily Sun reports it would be the first long-term care facility for state vets north of Phoenix.

There was unanimous support among members of the council for such a home, since the two existing facilities in Arizona, in Phoenix and Tucson, are full and have long waiting lists.

Yuma is already slated to get a 60-bed home for vets, but it has yet to be built.

If the idea gets a green light, it would likely be two or three years before construction begins.
