A tour bus crash near Yuma has injured 23 people Thursday. The bus was moving down a dirt road when it flipped on its side.
Yuma County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Alfonso Zevala said the bus was apparently trying to turn while going over an embankment.
That’s when it fell over on a dirt road between fields of celery and cabbage crops. He said the bus is operated by Phoenix-based Tour West America.
“They do do tours around Yuma County around this time of year with all the agriculture being farmed. So it’s easily accessed with farm tractors and agriculture buses so it would not be uncommon to see a bus on that canal or on that road,” Zevala said.
He said 52 people were on the bus when it crashed.
An investigation is underway but the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration website shows the company has not had an accident in the past two years.
