A ruling from the state court of appeals says a garage can put a lien on a vehicle after performing repairs, even if the owner failed to consent to all the repairs performed.
The case involves a lien or a hold on the vehicle title of a 1985 Jaguar. The court says the lien is okay under state law, even though the vehicle owners failed to authorize some of the work.
The owners had refused to pay the $2,400 bill, claiming the repairs were not authorized. A lien is a form of security for a debt or payment that is owed.
The court said state law allows the garage to put a lien on the vehicle for the amount of the repairs its owners did authorize.
