ASU Professor Files $2M Claim Against The University

An Arizona State University professor who was arrested by a campus police officer last year is preparing to file a multi-million dollar lawsuit against the school.

On Nov. 12 of last year, ASU was served with a $2 million claim, the first step toward a lawsuit. ASU Professor Ersula Ore said she was falsely arrested by campus police officer Stewart Ferrin near the university on May 20.

The claim also accuses the officer of using excessive force and that she suffered financial, emotional and psychological damages.

“Arizona State University Police Department is governed by Arizona State University," said Daniel Ortega Jr., the professor’s attorney. "And so we’re going to be filing suit against both the university and Officer Ferrin.”

ASU police have said Ore was stopped for jaywalking and refused to show identification.
