The number of Tempe 8 th grade students consuming alcohol has decreased in the past four years. This is according to a survey by the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission.
The 2014 Arizona Youth Survey studied more than 3,400 Tempe students, more than 800 of those were 8 th graders. The survey shows among those 8 th grade students, more than 10 percent reported having consumed alcohol in the past 30 days.
That’s a drop of more than 50 percent from 2010. The Tempe Coalition is a group that works to reduce drug and alcohol use among teens. The group said its media campaign, parent and student education programs, as well as its middle school resources helped reduce the use of alcohol among 8 th grade students.
