Police departments across the Valley are making last-minute preparations in advance of the Super Bowl. Security will be very tight and that means a lot of officers will be working overtime on their days off.
Even the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has a role in Super Bowl security as the Valley gets ready to host all of the big parties and of course the NFL championship game on February first.
Phoenix police spokesman Trent Crump said the department is ready to go.
"We budgeted a little over a million dollars of overtime in the city of Phoenix just for police officers for this event because we knew that we would be moving people’s schedules around and we would be bringing in officers on days that were their days off and switching their schedules,” Crump said.
Football fans around the world will be watching the Super Bowl broadcast from Glendale’s University of Phoenix stadium.
But Crump said police patrols will be staffed as regular in Phoenix neighborhoods despite the strong security presence around the big game.
