Three measures about law enforcement transparency are being discussed at the Arizona capitol. Two have been introduced as bills. The other is expected to be formally proposed next week. It would allow departments to withhold the name of an officer involved in a shooting for up to 90 days.
“The name of an officer is public information," said Tia Oso with the Black Alliance for Just Immigration. "We don’t have secret police in America, so there isn’t a reason why information should be withheld.”
The other two bills are sponsored by transparency advocates. One would require all officers to wear body cameras. And the other would require an outside department to investigate officer involved shootings.
