Digital Advertising Coming To School Hallways

Digital billboards are coming to school hallways in a pair of Tucson districts and are expected to make their way into the Valley before long.

The billboards, which look like jumbo-sized iPods, are being installed next month in the Vail and Sunnyside school districts. The California company SkoolLive LLC is installing them for free, in return for being able to sell ads on them.

According to the Arizona Daily Star, company officials expect the digital boards to each bring in about $300 a month, with the money initially going to the schools’ student councils. The two high schools testing the boards in the Vail District will each have about ten billboards.

The governing boards of the two districts will have final approval over any ads to be put on the screens, which will also feature content from the schools.

Ads for tobacco, or that are politically incorrect, sexually explicit or obscene, are prohibited. The company says it has agreements with more than 2,000 schools in 27 states and expects to triple that number this year.
