As Super Bowl activities approach, the city of Phoenix will begin closing several streets downtown this weekend.
While officials began restricting some roads in Phoenix on Tuesday, the most widespread closures will begin Friday evening.
Most of the closures are within the Super Bowl central zone, which takes up 12 city blocks downtown.
By early next week, the city’s street transportation department will have restricted Jefferson street through Van Buren between 2nd avenue and 5th street.
All Super Bowl-related road closures will be lifted by Feb. 4. Central Avenue from Jefferson to Washington Street will be closed through February, though, to accommodate the Cityscape Ice Rink.
