Upcoming Jobs Forecast Predicts Some Strong Sectors In Arizona

The Department of Administration is preparing to deliver its jobs forecast for 2015 next month, and there are indications some economic sectors will see strong growth.

State economist Aruna Murthy said the latest census figures, which show more retired people moving to Arizona, indicate the health care sector could do very well in 2015. And she said while construction employment will likely slow down, the rate of loss is expected to be lower than it has been.

“Even though we are not, our non-residential construction is the one which has not done too well, but still I think the overall construction would, in 2015, I would think it would be little better than what we have seen in 2014," Murthy said.

And Murthy said a recent increase in export activity from Arizona and the fact there is investment taking place indicate the manufacturing sector is likely to pick-up again.

Murthy notes the financial sector could be hurt by announced cuts at American Express and online auction giant eBay but she said it’s hard to tell how Arizona would be affected.
