The Mormon Church in Salt Lake City came out publicly in support of legal protections for LGBT community.
In a press conference Tuesday, spokesperson Sister Neill Marriot said the church doctrine on sexual orientation hasn’t changed.
“God is loving and he expects us to treat one another with love and fairness," Marriot said. "It’s for this reason that the church has publicly favored laws and ordinance that protect LGBT people from discrimination in housing and employment.”
Church elders qualified their statements by saying religious communities should endure the constitutional right to free speech without discrimination.
