Will Humble On The Measles Outbreak In Arizona

As many as 1,000 Arizonans in three counties, Maricopa, Pinal and Gila, may have been exposed to measles. It’s a highly contagious disease often manifesting itself as a rash.

The virus, transmitted in droplets from a sneeze or cough, can live for as long as two hours on those surfaces on which they land.

For more on Arizona’s outbreak, we turn to Will Humble, Director of the state Department of Health Services. He’s appealing to parents who haven’t gotten their kids vaccinated to do so now.

For patients who show up at hospitals, oftentimes one of the first people they’ll see is a nurse. Robin Schaeffer, executive director of the Arizona Nurses Association, said nurses are paying close attention to the outbreak.
