New Bill May Hold The Future Of Arizona Microbreweries

We step back out on the ledge now, to check in on the goings-on at the state capitol. And this time, we do so with a tall, cold one.

One of the issues lawmakers will be debating this year is beer, specifically what microbreweries can and cannot do.

Republican State Senator Kelli Ward of Lake Havasu City is the sponsor of SB1030, the so-called Beer Bill, which, among other things, would let microbreweries keep their bars and restaurants, even if they brew enough beer to be moved out of the micro category.

Opponents of the measure are pushing their own version, which will be sponsored by Ward’s GOP Senate colleague, Steve Smith of Maricopa.

Don Isaacson represents the Arizona Wine and Spirits Wholesale Association, which is behind that bill.
