Airport officials say most delays have been seen in the ticketing and bag check areas.

It’s a busy day at Phoenix Sky Harbor. Airport officials say the heavy traffic began Sunday night and is expected through 2 p.m.

About 80,000 departing passengers are expected at the facility Monday, which is almost double the airport’s average.

Lisa Farbstein is with the Transportation Security Administration. She said the agency brought in about 100 additional TSA officers from around the country to help process the crowds.

"There are seven checkpoints at the airport," Farbstein said. "Every one of them is fully staffed and then some because we brought in these officers."

Julie Rodriquez, a Sky Harbor spokeswoman, estimated athat about 180,000 people will be passing through the airport Monday. It's a crowd, she said, officials are prepared to handle.

"We’ve brought in extra ground transport, taxis, the rental car center has additional staff," Rodriguez said. "So everyone’s ready for this day. It’s expected to be the busiest day in the history of sky harbor and we’ve been planning for this for a year."

A few flight to areas in the Midwest and New England have been cancelled due to winter weather concerns. So far, no major delays are being reported.
