Kiva Elementary School in Paradise Valley sent a letter to parents Friday warning them that a family member of a student there might have the measles.
So far, this is an unconfirmed case and school officials are waiting to hear from the Maricopa County Department of Public Health with results. Kristine Harrington is with the Scottsdale Unified School District. She says the school sent the letter to mitigate fears of a possible infection.
"The family is currently under a physician’s care and is following all safety precautions, and the Kiva student has shown no signs or symptoms and is not suspected of having the measles," Harrington said.
Harrington said the family of the student notified the school on Thursday. The letter states that if there is a confirmed case of measles, students who are not vaccinated will be excluded from school until the outbreak is contained.
