Former Arizona Congressman Rick Renzi is waiting to hear if he can put off serving a prison sentence in a corruption case.
Renzi has been ordered to surrender Friday to begin his three-year-prison sentence. But he asked the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals to remain free pending a United States Supreme Court ruling on an appeal. The 9 th Circuit has already upheld Renzi’s conviction and sentence.
Attorneys in the case finished filing briefs on Reni’s emergency motion with the appeals court earlier this week.
The former politician was convicted of conspiring to use his position to make two companies buy land owned by his former business associate so the associate could repay a debt he owed Renzi.
