Senator John McCain said the self-proclaimed Islamic State is a direct threat to the United States. This comes a week after the confirmation that a Prescott native Kayla Mueller was killed during Jordanian airstrikes in Syria.
McCain called President Barack Obama’s recent plan to defeat ISIS a recipe for failure.
“The first and most important component is you got to beat them on the battlefield," McCain said. "But it’s obvious there has to be economic, there has to be cultural [and] there has to be religious efforts to motivate these young people to reject this violent radical Muslim extremism.”
McCain warned ISIS is spreading in part because it’s recruiting young people to fight for them.
