Measles In Arizona Contained — For Now

In the weeks following the latest measles outbreak, there have been no new confirmed cases – yet. Dr. Rebecca Sunenshine is with the Department of Health. She said there are still around 88 confirmed cases in California.

"The chances that there will be continued spread and the measles will be reintroduced from California into Arizona are pretty high," she said.

Sunenshine also said swift action on the part of health officials made all the difference in terms of containing the outbreak.

"We got really luck with this one in that we were able to notify everyone of their exposure and we believe at least for those cases that were identified a few weeks ago, that we have not seen any further spread," she said.

Sunenshine said there were two confirmed cases of measles in Maricopa County and a total of seven in the state. All of cases were linked to the Disneyland outbreak.
