South Mountain’s summit road has been closed since August following back-to-back monsoons. Now, the City of Phoenix is about to reopen the road.

Early Friday morning, the summit road will open once again. The road was temporarily closed after two severe monsoons damaged parts the road, leaving mud and debris in its wake.

The city had planned to reopen the road after the first storm rolled through on Aug. 12. They were days away from doing just that when the city was pounded by record-breaking rainfall, causing even more damage. The cost to repair the road had been estimated to be around $800,000. No final figure has been released yet.
