The Arizona House will now debate a bill that has one mission: to kill Common Core.
State Rep. Mark Finchem of Oro Valley is sponsoring the measure, which would create a panel to work with the state Board of Education to create new educational guidelines for Arizona.
“We need to return to where Arizona- developed standards are better than the dumb-down standards of Common Core standards, so we can set the bar for the global market,” Finchem said.
Charter school leader Lynn Robershotte defends Common Core, warning of dire consequences if the bill becomes law.
“This is not about an assessment. This is not about parents being uninformed or being incapable of having their kinds of opportunities to work with their students,” Robershotte said.
The bill was approved by the House Education Committee.
