Former Arizona Congressman Rick Renzi will be going to prison Friday. He had asked to delay the start of his prison sentence until the U.S. Supreme Court reviewed his case.
The Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ordered Renzi to start serving his three year sentence at the end of the week. He was convicted of corruption and money laundering in June of 2013, but has been successful at postponing the start of his sentence ever since.
The former politician conspired to use his position to make two companies buy land owned by his former business associate so the associate could repay a debt he owed Renzi. He represented Arizona’s 1st congressional district from 2003-2009.
