New Mexico Rocket Launch Visible In Arizona

If you were up early Wednesday you may have seen a pink cloud in the eastern sky. It was the result of a NASA rocket launch in southern New Mexico.

The rocket launched from the Army installation on the White Sands Missile Range about 5:26 a.m. It was visible across a wide swath of Arizona for about 20 minutes as sunlight hit the vapor released by the rocket.

Residents in places like Phoenix, Tucson, Lake Havasu City and Flagstaff reported seeing the cloud.

White Sands spokeswoman Cammy Montoya said the rocket carried an atmospheric-research payload designed by scientists and engineers at a research lab at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque.
