Llamas No Longer On The Loose In Sun City

Two llamas that were on the loose in Sun City have been captured – after tying up traffic and Twitter for hours.

The chase began around 11:30 Thursday morning near 107th and Grand avenues and was quickly picked up by local TV stations. National networks followed. The chase ended around 1:30 p.m. when the last llama was lassoed. The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office led the chase. Lieutenant Brandon Jones said this was a first for a department.

"There was probably some pretty hectic things going on at the time, and some confusion," he said. "But you know, the one thing positive that came out of this: The animals are captured without being injured and no one received any injuries. So that’s awesome."

Jones said his department is still trying to figure how the llamas escaped, but their owner has been found.
