Coolidge Schools Vote For Four-Day Week

The Coolidge School Board has voted unanimously to go to a four-day school schedule this fall. But the reasons behind the change are a bit different than when the district started discussing the idea.

Originally, the plan was to use the money saved by only holding classes four days a week to hand out pay hikes, in an effort to recruit and retain teachers.

But that idea may have to be put on hold because of Gov. Doug Ducey’s proposed school budget cut of $113.5 million statewide.

Coolidge School Superintendent Charie Wallace says plans for the 5-to-7-percent pay hikes may now have to wait.

The Casa Grande Dispatch reports even as they unanimously voted for the four-day schedule, board members expressed concerns, especially about the ability of parents to find alternatives for their young children on Fridays.
