A Maricopa County Superior Court Judge has agreed to hear oral arguments in a case involving the authorization of the funding source for Arizona’s Medicaid expansion program.
Superior Court judge Katherine Cooper ruled Friday she will hear oral arguments from both sides of the Medicaid expansion program.
At issue is whether a hospital assessment to fund the state’s portion of Arizona’s Medicaid system was legally enacted. The assessment would allow the state to expand Medicaid service to about 300,000 additional people.
It passed in the legislature with a handful of Republicans joining all Democrats. Opposing Republicans argue the plan needed two-thirds of the vote to pass.
Oral arguments are set for July 10.
