The Arizona Senate has approved a bill that would allow the Arizona Department of Transportation to issue drivers licenses that comply with the REAL ID act.
The federal act was passed after 9-11 to establish security standards for licenses and ID cards. Arizona opted not to make the necessary changes.
The Transportation Security Administration will stop accepting Arizona driver’s licenses at airports in 2016, meaning a passport would be required for air travel.
This new legislation if passed, would give ADOT the authority to issue a REAL ID compliant license to those who want it.
