An undocumented immigrant left sanctuary after being granted a temporary stay of removal. This gives his attorneys six months to move forward in his case.
Misael Perez Cabrera spent more than 100 days in Shadow Rock United Church of Church in Phoenix avoiding deportation. He came to the United States nearly a decade ago from Guatemala and had been working as a roofer.
In November he was picked up by police and turned over to Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. He thanked everyone who helped him through this tough time.
"It was a big victory. Thanks to God I was in sanctuary for more than 100 days," he said in Spanish. "But at this time God has given us a victory and it’s all thanks to him, and with everyone’s help, this congregation as well as the attorneys, we were able to achieve something positive today."
Perez Cabrera said he’s excited to return to his family go back to work.
