Construction Begins For Arizona Fallen Firefighter Memorial

(Alexandra Olgin KJZZ News)

Construction began on the Arizona Fallen Firefighter Memorial Friday near the state capitol. The Arizona Firefighters and Emergency Memorial Commission worked to create the monument.

Governor Doug Ducey said it honors the firefighters the state has lost since 1902.

“We will remember the more than 105 paramedics we have lost in the line of duty in Arizona," Ducey said. "Including the 19 brave Granite Mountain Hot Shots taken at the turn of the wind in the worst wildfire in our states history.”

The memorial will include 10 bronze sculptures representing wild land firefighters, paramedics, volunteers and professional firefighters.
