The decades-in-development South Mountain Freeway has moved a large step closer to construction.
The route, which will run east to west behind South Mountain and then go north between 63rd and 59th avenue, has received final approval from the Federal Highway Administration.
That allows the Arizona Department of Transportation to move the project ahead.
We talked with Eric Anderson, transportation director for the Maricopa Association of Governments, about the freeway.
