More than 40 percent of people living in Lake Havasu and Prescott have remarried.

A report from the United States Census Bureau’s American Community Survey found two Arizona towns topped the list of cities sampled for the number of adults who had been remarried.

Compared to the rest of the country, Arizona is statistically higher than the national average when comes to the percentage of men and woman who remarried. But when the survey looked certain cities across the state, the results were striking.

More than 40 percent of Arizonans living in the Lake Havasu-Kingman area and Prescott had tied the knot at least twice.

Tom Rex with Arizona State University’s W.P. Carey School of Business said age is a big factor.

"The older you are the more likely it is that you’ve been married more than once whether due to divorce or due to being widowed. So what you find they’re right at the top on the number of remarriages, but they’re also right at the top on the number of people in those older age groups," Rex said.

The Phoenix-metro area was not quite as high. Around 26 percent of men and women surveyed had remarried.

The survey looked at other factors including race, income and education.
