Arizona Lawmakers Move To Change Abortion Requirements

Arizona lawmakers are moving to put new requirements in place for women who want an abortion. Under the measure, women having a medical abortion would be informed they have the option of changing their minds.

Self-described pro-life obstetrician Allan Sawyer told a House committee he has performed the procedure.

“Women who initiated a medical abortion process who change their minds for whatever reasons should not have their babies stolen from them because Planned Parenthood or any abortionist withheld life-saving facts or provided misinformation to these women,” Allen said.

Ilana Addis, the chair of the Arizona section of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, said doctors are supposed to practice evidence-based medicine.

“And unfortunately, the protocol that has been suggested for reversing a medication abortion has no evidence to support it,” Addis said.

The bill will also block Arizonans with policies under the Affordable Care Act from even being offered coverage for elective abortions.  It would also require abortion doctors to provide home addresses to state health officials, where they could be made public.
