After two years of repair work, a section of US 89 will reopen at the end of this month.

A 500-foot landslide damaged the road south of Page in February 2013.

Arizona Department Of Transportation spokesman Dustin Krugel said crews are in the final stages of the project, doing things like laying down asphalt and installing guardrails.

“It was a very extensive project that included shifting the roadway about 60 feet to the east into the mountain slope, away from the active landslide area,” Krugel said.

During the construction project, motorists used a detour through the Navajo Nation, adding more than 40 miles while driving from Flagstaff to Page.
