Tucson Considers Camping Ban On Sidewalks, Public Parks

The Tucson City Council is considering an ordinance that would prohibit camping on city sidewalks and public parks.

The proposal would not make homelessness a crime, just the act of camping on city property.

City officials say it was modeled after an ordinance in Denver.

Current Tucson city law allows people to sleep on sidewalks, but only if they have just three belongings with them.

The move follows a recent protest that brought dozens of wooden sleeping pods to a park downtown.
